Hi! You’re here!! Thank you so much for visiting my website. And you even decided to check out my About Me page?! I feel so honored! 🥹
I’m Daphne. I’m in my 20s. I am from Huntsville, Alabama, USA. I hate it here and I’ve been trying to escape since graduating high school, but for some odd reason I always end up back here. It has to be a reason I’m still here, right? Well, it does afford me the luxury of being able to travel so much. I own a home here and my mortgage is in the hundreds which is extremely rare these days. Alabama also has a lower cost of living compared to other states.
I work a full time government job that I do not enjoy, but it does pay the bills. I am working really hard towards starting a new career that I am passionate about. Speaking of, I’m currently back in college, this time for photography! I really enjoy it and don’t even mind driving two hours each way to school every week. Hopefully you’ll see the progression of my photography on this site. All the pictures I post were taken by me, except some of the pictures of me, that were taken by friends or strangers.
I travel solo 95% of my trips. Like with most solo travelers, I started doing so because I got tired of waiting and being disappointed. As a child, I made yearly vision boards every January. On every single one there were always pictures of places I wanted to travel to. After reaching adulthood, I found my life stagnant and not at all as what I envisioned as a kid. All I did was work and sleep. I think I maybe even had a quarter-life meltdown. Life was not great. And I decided to change it.
At the time I had a decent job that had all the overtime I could work and I was able to save and have disposable income for the first time ever. I also used to listen to a lot of motivational speakers and I remember one speech by Oprah Winfrey that stuck with me. She said something like never be afraid to ask for what you want. After listening, I told my supervisor that I want to take off more to travel. She actually thought it was a great idea and wished that she would have traveled more when she was young! I was then able to use leave without pay to travel.
Armed with the lessons and guides from so many amazing solo female travelers that I came across on the internet. I set off on my journey to become just like them!
Since then I have been to 49 states (still missing Alaska) and over 50 countries. Traveling, as cliche as I might sound has shaped the woman I am today. I started as a sheltered, naive, timid girl from the south. Today I am strong, fearless and believe I can do almost anything.
About ByeGirlFlyGirl.com
This website was created in January 2024 as part of my New Year resolution. This is my third attempt at a blog. But, third times the charm right? I was lazy during my first attempt. Covid happened during my second. And here we are today. Wish me luck lol.
Bye Girl Fly Girl is a mixture of a few of my favorite pop culture sayings. From Girl Bye to Bye Wig. It personally means saying bye to negative people and things and letting it go and living your best life. When I first began traveling, I heard and observed some hurtful things from people who I thought cared about me. Traveling can bring out a lot of jealousy, envy and resentment.
In a weird way this site is my safe space, here I can share my love for life and traveling. I hope to provide information that is useful for new travelers of every gender and background. Even though I’ve been traveling solo for eight years, I still feel like a newbie and make mistakes and learn new things on every trip.
I can only hope that this website can be an inspiration to young people out there who want to see the world.
Thank you so much for visiting my site, it means the world to me 💗
