On my current mission of visiting all fifty states, I took a trip out west to the very scenic Arizona. My itinerary while visiting was to explore Antelope Canyon and Grand Canyon. After visiting both, I searched for local attractions and came across advertisements for hot air balloon rides. To my surprise, it was a few who even took tours over the red rocks.
During my road trip in Arizona I was obsessed with the mountains, sandstones and red rock’s. They were all so massive and colorful and in an array of shapes and forms. It was so hard to drive at times from pulling over trying to photos of them. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to view them from above, in all their glory.
Not only was it my first time in Arizona, but it was also going to be my first time in a hot air balloon! I did my research and confirmed that they are indeed pretty safe. There are a couple of companies who offer the tour in Sedona and I narrowed it down to one that went closest to the rocks. To my surprise, after booking the balloon trip, I was informed that it would start at 4 a.m.! That meant I had to be up at 3! I put on all the warmest clothing I packed and headed on out. When I arrived at the camp site, I was happy to see that it was only seven of us, with of course me being the odd woman out. We all watched in amazement as the crew set up the balloon and we even helped out a bit.
The ride up in the hot air balloon was surprisingly quite normal. Height’s don’t really bother me, but I was nervous about the actual flow of the balloon. The ride was extremely smooth and it just felt like we were gliding in the air. There were around seven or so balloons in the air and the pilots kept a safe distance. The views were amazing and I had expected to see some wildlife, but I only saw a jack rabbit.
Overall my experience was excellent and I give it two thumbs up. It lasted for around ninety minutes and seemed to go by pretty fast. After we landed we did a champagne toast and had the option to purchase photos. \
Arizona is one of my favorite states, if you get the opportunity to visit I definitely recommend going to Antelope Canyon and riding in a hot air balloon.
