In the past eight years of traveling solo, I have been through some luggage. My first suitcases were the kind you find at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. After those fell apart, I moved on up to Macy’s to a Jessica Simpson navy and cream print set! I was so excited for my first matching set, I even purchased the tote that matched the two suitcases. My poor luggage barely made it through five trips.
After that I went back to an assortment of fifty dollar suitcases.
My next big purchase was a Herschel Supply suitcase that I thought was gonna last. It lasted for about two years before it was damaged by baggage claim at the start of a trip. I was embarrassingly forced to roll around on three wheels during an international multi-stop trip, it was awful.
At the point, I had enough. I was going to invest in a nice hard body matching set. The expensive looking luggage sets that are constantly advertised all over social media. I was going to get a silver Rimowa matching set. That was until I saw the price, I quickly closed out of that window and continued my search. I then came across Calpak luggage, their luggage was stylish, came in a variety of colors and was way more budget friendly.
I ordered the Calpak Evry carry-on and large suitcase. It was on sale during Black Friday for $299. To protect the luggage even more this time around, I also purchased two clear vinyl luggage covers as well.
It has been over a year since I have owned the set. It has been on planes, buses, trains, ferries and roadtrips. Here are my thoughts..
Positives
- Light-weight – doesn’t feel bulky and heavy even though I’m a super over packer
- Good wheels and handle – 360 wheels that keep up with me when I’m running through the airport because I’m alway late. Multiple adjust handle that clicks in one place. I like that it has a higher one for when you rolling the suitcase behind you and a lower one when you’re rolling it on near your side.
- Compartments and pockets – The suitcases have mesh interior pouches that are good for things you want to keep separate from your clothes, such as a warm flat iron and body wash. It has a strap inside that I can fold my bulky blanket in and don’t have drag it around getting it dirty.
- Easy to Clean – I did have a cover for it, but sadly it didn’t make it. I was worried about the luggage getting full of scraps and marks, but so far it’s still in good condition.
Negatives
- The exterior zipper broke pretty quickly. There is another one and I can grasp the other zipper to it close. However, I am worried about when the other zipper breaks. It is going to be pretty challenging opening and closing my suitcases.
- The rubber lining on the outside has come undone. I’m not sure what it really protects, but it is poking out.

All in all, I am pretty pleased with my Calpak luggage! My only real concern is the exterior zipper, but other than that its hold up just fine. I guess I’m just happy that I don’t need to replace it like my previous suitcase.
